Paul is a partner with Rueter Scargall Bennett LLP. His practice is focused on real estate-related litigation, including expropriation, appraiser liability and environmental matters. Paul has also acted on professional negligence and insurance defence matters.
Paul acted for successful parties before various levels of the Courts and before a variety of Boards, such as the Ontario Municipal Board (“OMB”). Appearances before the OMB have involved hydro lines, rural road widenings, major infrastructure projects and most highway initiations in Ontario. Such highway projects would include representing landowners impacted by Highway 7, 400, 401, QEW, 404, 410, 427, 407 as well as regional road projects.
Paul received a law degree from the University of Toronto in 1986, was called to the Ontario Bar in 1988, and is a member of the Canadian and Ontario Bar Associations, The Advocates’ Society and the American Bar Association. Paul has been an instructor at the Ontario Bar Admission Courses, The Advocates’ Society, and has also appeared as an instructor/lecturer before several professional organizations on various matters, including examination and cross-examination of expert witnesses. Paul is a director and past president of the Ontario Expropriation Association Board. Paul also is a director of the Children’s Aid Society Foundation of York Region, and was appointed as a Deputy Judge for the Provincial Court, Civil Division in 1999.
