Janice joined Rueter Scargall Bennett LLP as a partner in 2004.   She has acted as counsel in a broad range of civil, regulatory and class action litigation, including complex corporate, commercial and securities cases such as Hollinger, Portus, Bre-X (John Felderhof), Asbestos, YBM Magnex, Thomson Kernaghan (Mark Valentine), and Brian Costello.

Janice routinely represents clients in regulatory investigations and enforcement proceedings.   She has also acted as counsel to certain regulatory agencies. 

Janice has represented clients in numerous other types of corporate commercial and administrative law cases including the following: representing investors alleging broker negligence; representing professionals on allegations of professional negligence or misconduct; and, representing shareholders in share valuation cases.    She has also advised clients in cases involving wrongful dismissal suits, contractual disputes and matters involving directors’ liability.

Janice has represented clients before all levels of courts in Ontario, as well as before the Ontario Securities Commission, the Institute of Chartered Accountants, the Public Accounts Council for the Province of Ontario, the Certified General Accountants of Ontario, the Mutual Fund Dealers Association, the Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada and other administrative and quasi-judicial bodies.

Janice has been selected by her peers and ranked as BV Distinguished in Martindale-Hubbell.

Janice received a B.A. (Honours) in Political Science from the University of Toronto in 1987 and an LL.B. from Queen’s University in 1991.  She was called to the Ontario Bar in 1993 and is currently a member of the Canadian and Ontario Bar Associations, The Advocates’ Society and the Metropolitan Toronto Lawyers’ Association. 

Janice has published papers in the area of corporate and securities law and appears frequently as a speaker at conferences on corporate and securities law issues.
